The migrant population was somewhat more likely to bring male children than female children with them to their place of migration. At both the preschool stage and the compulsory education stage, the male to female sex ratio of migrant children was higher than that of left-behind children. The data indicate that at the preschool education age, and especially at the compulsory education stage, boys were more likely to live with their migrant parents and benefit from urban education resources.
