Schistosomiasis is a disease that is endemic in southern China, where the parasitic Schistosoma82 micro-organism and its host snail live. In 2013, 69 million people were affected in rural areas of schistosomiasis-afflicted provinces. Schistosomiasis can be prevented with proper management of livestock and human waste. The Government has been making efforts to treat schistosomiasis, but continued interventions are needed.
