Anaemia remains a persistent problem among children in China. Between 1998 and 2005, the prevalence of anaemia fluctuated in the range of 17 to 23 per cent, without obvious decline. Since 2005, anaemia prevalence began to decline, with prevalence reported at 12.6 per cent in 2010, with around one in eight children anaemic. The prevalence of anaemia varies with age and is highest among 6–12 month-olds.
