UNICEF's 30 Years in China

18/12/2009

UNICEF first assisted China between 1947 and 1951, providing emergency services, food and nutrition, health and hygiene training during and after the War of Liberation. In 1979 UNICEF recommenced its cooperation with the Government of China which today supports child health and nutrition, clean water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS.

Today UNICEF works in poor counties in almost all of China's provinces, supporting pilot projects and approaches in close cooperation with the Government, evaluating and documenting these approaches for scale-up by the Government, introducing global best practices and sharing good practices from China with other countries, and supporting the Government in improving policies and legislative frameworks for children.
